Piliana means ‘connected’ or ‘family’ in Hawaiian. With loneliness becoming a huge issue within society, the aim of the co-founders, who both frequently work oversees, was to create an app that will help people connect to one and other wherever we are in the world. Not a dating app, but an app to show people what is going on in any one area at any given time.
The brand had to communicate something that was bright and friendly, yet clean and quickly recognisable. We decided the best way of doing this was by reflecting the name’s origins, and so set out to look into some of the unique aspects of Hawaii, namely its nature. And so, it was decided to focus upon the flower native to Hawaii, the hibiscus.
