As is widely known the BAFTA awards’ main purpose is to highlight outstanding achievements within the TV and film industry, but for this particular year, the chosen theme was to be music. So, the challenge was to somehow represent music without taking the focus away from TV and film.
While searching for inspiration I happened upon a photograph of a group of people waving sparklers around in the dark, and so thought, what if that sparkler was a conductor’s baton, or more to the point, what if a conductor’s baton was a sparkler – what sort of patterns would that create? So, with pen and ink in hand and a lot of paper, I set about loosely drawing numerous lines and squiggles, eventually becoming theme to that year’s awards, used as decorative elements within print and screen platforms. Using the same technique, but with a little more attention, the ‘2015’ ident was also created.
